We are almost through the first month of 2020! Did you make any New Year's Resolutions? And if you did, are you still following through with them? If not, that is okay! Approximately 80% of those who make New Year's Resolutions give up on them by the middle of January. While this information may seem disheartening, we view this as an opportunity to try again! Now that the craziness of the holidays has passed and we’ve had the chance to readjust to daily routines, we encourage you to slow down, look inward, and try setting new goals and intentions. We put together some inspiration based on the Thunderbird team’s goals to get you started!

Be more now

In a world full of distractions, it can be easy to get lost in the noise. Take a moment, step back, and check in with yourself whenever you get the chance. When you take the time to be mindful and present with yourself, you are able to better be present with those around you. One way we are actively being more present is by leaving our phones behind a few times per week. The next time you go out to eat with a loved one, let them eat first...not your phone!

Eat more plants

Michael Pollan brilliantly stated, “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” Thunderbird was founded on vegan principals, so we definitely know the value of living a plant based lifestyle. There are a wealth of benefits to eating this way, from helping the planet to lowering the risk of disease. All of us at Thunderbird are making a conscious effort to add in a variety of diverse fruits and vegetables to our daily routines. A great way to get fresh, local veggies is through a CSA program, like Johnson’s Backyard Garden here in Austin, TX!

Move

It’s no secret that exercise is an important part of a healthy routine. Movement helps to stimulate the brain, improves mood, and so much more. Exercise doesn’t have to mean running a marathon or going to the CrossFit Games. A simple walk around the block or a 15 minute yoga session is enough to get the benefits of movement. We’re taking every chance we get to go outside, get some fresh air, and move around.

Any time is the right time to form a new habit. Resolutions can be made any day of the year. Setting goals and intentions are a part of a productive and positive life, and we hope these ideas can inspire you to set some of your own!
